It was a night of, drinks, laughs and of course, alot of excitement over none other than – Chicken Sh*t. One wouldn’t think that it would have been as exciting as it was but with the right atmosphere and drinks, anything is possible so it would seem.
I was invited to head to a local bar in my downtown for an event that really perplexed me at first. Thinking, “How am I going to write about this” to myself. But, it seemed like an interesting thing to write about so away I went.
I showed up to the bar around 2:44pm. But people were already starting to ask questions as I overheard chatter about the chickens and how to game was gonna work (I was also curious but just observed) Then while joking with the married couple at the bar, the woman insisted I taste her drink – a Cucumber Martini. We’ll get to the drinks soon enough!
The first impression of The Gold Fish was Rustic, and the place screams of the exotic and beachy vibes with and artisan twist.
“The Gold Fish is a mostly outdoor biergarten style bar that specializes in craft cocktails and have an extensive whiskey selection”
The bar has offered many events including, teaming up with the Humane Society, and also, gaining an award for best Margarita by The Bend’s Local’s List of 2019:
So to my first drink – Bourbon Sour
The Bourbon Sour is a twist on many variations. Some versions have egg whites, some versions have other different preparations done before hand. This was a very tart and citrus explosion type cocktail. It had very strong tones of sweetness and it was pretty bold for a simple stand alone cocktail and for my first drink – of many.⭐⭐⭐⭐
My buddy Juan behind the bar did not disappoint.
The game is about to begin and the information is being laid out. Fairly simple.Chicken poops on your number, you win. There is a cage made with a board of numbers underneath. I buy a ticket. The chicken names were fantastic among the names were Cluck Norris, Hennessey just to name a few. So the game begins but it was a bit of a wait but behold! A Corpus local was the winner! This just wasn’t my round.
Now on to round 2!
I buy three tickets to this round. 33,34,35 in succession. I slip the tickets in my front shirt pocket thinking, “This is actually pretty fun” and all the people around me seem pretty excited and Chris Garza is singing “Have A Party” by Toby Keith, and segways into “Closing Time” and “Wagon Wheel” as the night progresses on. So for round 2…I won! The chicken done it’s thing right between TWO of my numbers and winning me the whole money pot. There was an exclamation from the crowd as my yell of “Hey! That’s me!” rang out! This earning me the name “Two Ticket Toney” with the announcer Cooper Lundquist owner of Big Box and Banõs and sponsor for the event!
More drinks – Raspberry Sangria
The Raspberry Sangria is another signature cocktail of The Gold Fish and was on special to the crowd. The Raspberry comes through with a crisp bite. It was an amazing cocktail, that definitely lived up to expectations.⭐⭐⭐⭐
And the Front Porch Cooler
The Front Porch Cooler was my favorite drink that I had. One signature ingredient that set this off, Fresh squeezed watermelon juice. This cocktail was delicious and refreshing, and kicked up a notch with the addition of the Tajin. Not to mention one of the most beautiful drinks I had. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Cucumber Margarita
The Cucumber Margarita of The Gold Fish has been noted to having changed the game of drinks since adding Topo Chico Mineral Water to the mix. The cocktail was very crisp and cool. It was perfect for the humid, hot weather.⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Green Tea
This cocktail surprised me, it had the subtly of actual green tea with some citrus pop. It almost gives the regular magarita a run for its money, but stands fine all on its own. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Moscow Mule
Here’s the thing about The Moscow Mule, it’s always made with vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice. However, many people like to and are actually encouraged to play with the recipe by choosing their spirit of choice and my homie Juan really took care on this one and done just that. It was crisp and had a bite to it. This was my last drink and I was not let down. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
My overall experience at The Gold Fish was definitely something. It was the first time I witnessed pandemonium over chicken sh*t with added fun of live music (Chris Garza, I’m looking at you man!) And money and cocktails! It was a great time and I look forward to going back. Thanks to all that were involved, that I hung out with and made me feel welcome. The owner Robert Cooper can really throw a party! I’ll definitely be back!
