EXCLUSIVE Interview with Robby Anderson of Hope For the Broken

  • HFTB
    Bear Stephens

I’m sitting here with Robby Anderson of Hope for the Broken, formerly of Despised Virtue. How are you doing buddy?

  • Robby Anderson

i’m doing great how about you man?

  • Bear Stephens

Pretty great, lots of cool things coming to NT in the next couple of months

So, can you tell us what inspired the decision to end DV where it was and begin anew as HFTB?

  • Robby Anderson

well when me and my good friend joey started dv we never intended it to go as far as it did, it was just for fun you know? then it started to get popular and somewhat known, and after 2 years of it, me and the band decided it’s not the sound we want anymore, and we went our seperate ways and a few of us stuck together and started HFTB

  • Bear Stephens

Sounds like you guys have it all planned out. So, what is the difference sonically between Despised Virtue and Hope for the Broken?

  • Robby Anderson

the two completely different bands my man, not all members of HFTB were in DV and the music style is a complete 360 of what DV was. HFTB is a band people will be able to confide in, talk to, and never feel alone.

there* fuck my life can’t type right now

  • Bear Stephens

Both bands had a very positive message and I know you’ve always been one to be there for your fans or anyone who needs it in general. What inspired you to be a musician?

  • Robby Anderson

hmm what inspired me to be a musician, can’t say for sure i just always loved music and was always singing as a little kid, so i guess it’s just instinct,

  • Bear Stephens

Nothing wrong with that at all. So, your gearing up to release “Hollow Hearts” which was recently announced to be released on October 21st (6 days after my birthday, which really excites me). Tell us the story behind the title?

  • Robby Anderson

well the album is about confiding in yourself, finding out who you are as a person, this is a concept album and the concept pretty much revolves around me and my everyday life, the struggles i go through with family, and a touchy subject that i wanted to touch base on with this new music, my depression and insecurities. you will learn a lot about me and the band from this album.

  • Bear Stephens

It seems like we’ll be delving into your shoes in a way from the way you describe it. Was the writing process for this EP different from what you’ve done before? More tedious, more fun, etc?

  • Robby Anderson

the writing was much more in depth and much harder than we’ve ever experienced before instead of just throwing together a half decent sonf, we’ve actually sat down for days at a time to write a song and work out every little kink in them to make them the best they can be for you guys.

  • Bear Stephens

I’m truly excited to hear what you guys have in store for us. Any news on a new track being released anytime soon?

  • Robby Anderson

we are having one minor issue with releasing our single right now, but it should be cleared up soon, so look for one in august sometime!

  • Bear Stephens

Will the single be a heavy endeavor or a more melodic one?

  • Robby Anderson

our new music is definitely heavy, but for this single it’s more melodic and pretty

  • Bear Stephens

As far as releasing music goes, what is your philosophy on releasing a single? Do you think it should be one of the best tracks on the album or one of the better tracks that’s not necessarily the best?

  • Robby Anderson

that really depends on if we want to really hype up the fans, i think you should always release your 2nd best track, so then the fans aren’t disappointed if the other tracks aren’t as good/catchy

  • Bear Stephens

That’s good idea and one that many bands should embrace. So have you guys gotten some touring lined up to support the EP?

  • Robby Anderson

no tours yet, but we do have a cd release show coming up, and a few others round the locaql scene

    local*

  • Bear Stephens

Sounds pretty killer! Has this band meshed together pretty well so far?

  • Robby Anderson

    yeah man like a family

  • Bear Stephens

That’s great to hear. Well, I’m gonna wrap this up, but thank you so much for doing this! Is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers, your fans, and the general public?

  • Robby Anderson

Thanks man! Be sure to check out hollow hearts! And check out the NT stuff to come
