INTERVIEW: Nathan Eagle from Designs

  • Jordan Swickard

I’m sitting here with DESIGN’s very own Nathan Eagle, what’s up man?

  • Nathan Eagle

Just hanging out dude. Doing your interview lol.

  • Jordan Swickard

Haha okay, let’s get started! What made you guys choose the name “DESIGNS”?

  • Nathan Eagle

Well, honestly, we were sitting around practice one day throwing around band names, and Joel threw out Designs. At first we didn’t agree on it, we went with the name Amphion for a while, then decided it just wasn’t a good fit. Came back to Designs and actually felt a meaning behind it because we all design our own journey.

  • Nathan Eagle

It just spoke more to us

  • Jordan Swickard

That’s a real heavy meaning! I like it! So, tell me how it is to be the vocalist for the band?

  • Nathan Eagle

Good deal! Being the vocalist is quite fun actually. I enjoy what I do and I’m glad we all mix together as a whole. It was nerve racking at first, having the spotlight on you during shows, but after a while I became used to it and am slowly growing. There’s always room to improve and that is what we focus on in Designs, always improving.

  • Jordan Swickard

I can imagine! That’s a good way to look at it though. What made you guys want to start DESIGNS?

  • Nathan Eagle

It started with Joel and I, we both knew we wanted to play music as our lifestyle. We have a true passion for it. We brought together a great group of guys that all share the same goal, enjoy playing music that we all can have fun with and that our fans can relate to. We are like one big family and we like to treat everyone around us the same way.

  • Jordan Swickard

Rock on man! So I hear you guys are about to drop a EP. Tell me about it?

  • Nathan Eagle

Oh boy, yeah, we have put a lot into this album. Our heart and souls went into the making of this and we couldn’t be more proud. Each of our songs on the album deal with real life issues/situations, so there is at least one song that anyone can relate to. Joel came into the studio with a lot of lyrics written, more like a story, and that just showed that our songs truly speak from the heart. Our album is entitled “Only Time Will Tell” and it will be releasing on May 31 and we couldn’t be more stoked for it!

  • Jordan Swickard

Well that’s an album I’m for sure picking up! How does it feel to step on that stage?

  • Nathan Eagle

The feeling is amazing. Ever since I attending my first concert when I was younger, I knew this is what I really wanted to do with my life. Nothing compares to being on stage with your friends, playing music that we all enjoy and love. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

  • Jordan Swickard

That’s some passionate stuff man! Do you guys like to joke around with each other?

  • Nathan Eagle

There is definitely a lot of joking around in the band lol. We like to keep the “bro” relationship there. We are just glad we all mesh together so well and we can all have fun, but yet be business savvy at the same time. It’s a great combo. I remember being in the studio, we all would have our moments where we just acted dumb or did something wrong and we all just laughed about it. Being in the studio for two weeks recording was a great bonding experience and brought us so much closer together.

  • Jordan Swickard

Yeah man! It’s good to have a bond with your members! What is your favorite song off of your new album and why?

  • Nathan Eagle

Hmmm, that’s a hard question. I think it’s between “Carpe Diem” and “I Once Dated Hatred” because Carpe has a more techno-ish feel to it, but in Hatred, I include “rap screams” in it. This type of scream originated with Chris “Fronz” Fronzak of Attila. I like to include that in some of our songs because I enjoy doing them and I know it will set us apart because its different. I also do like “The Hashslinging Slasher” because of the power chorus. Devon’s voice is phenomenal during that song and it really stands out. I love it.

  • Jordan Swickard

That’s really good to hear! I’m super stoked to hear them! What was the first show you guys ever played as a band? Was you nervous?

  • Nathan Eagle

The first show we played was actually a great line up of bands. We opened for SycAmour, Seraphim, Caesar, and more and we knew we had to have a strong first show to make a good first impression. I personally was very nervous. There were a few times during the set where I actually choked up a little during breaks lol. We all learn from our mistakes, but I have to say, that was quite an experience!

  • Jordan Swickard

That is a nice line-up! Well I think it’s time we wrapped things up, is there anything you would like to say?

  • Nathan Eagle

I’d just like to say thank you so much for the interview, I appreciate your time and the urge to find out more info about my band. It means a lot that so many people are interested in us and want to hear more. We are super stoked to release our album, so make sure you all check it out.
