New Jersey Metalcore Band, KOBA, Partners with Ghost Killer Entertainment to Stream Mental EP
New Jersey – April 30th, 2017. Humble beginnings for New Jersey’s KOBA, with only 2 members originally in the band when they formed in 2014, Theo Sicurella (Vocals) and Cefin Fox (Drums.) Together, they released their debut EP, Simplicity, a wondrous mix of clean vocals and hard-hitting breakdowns. Throughout the duration of that cycle, they called upon friends to fill in on bass and guitar so that they would be able to play shows. Shortly after the release of that EP, they opened for Kingdom of Giants (InVogue Records) and Fire From the Gods (Rise Records). They recognized that their style was getting progressively heavier and clean vocals were completely removed upon the release of their next single, “Freeloader.” Fabian Moreno, who produced Simplicity, soon joined the band to play guitar. Soon after, the band solidified their line-up with their friend Anthony Benoukas, who joined to play bass. The band has since played shows with My Ticket Home (Rise Records), The Ongoing Concept (Solid State Records), Downswing, Born a New, Sirona and their first headline show last year. They headed back into the studio to record their sophomore EP, Mental, which is being released today exclusively via Ghost Killer Entertainment. Being the band’s first release as a collective, they spent a lot of time working out the details, making sure that it was released in proper time and through proper channels. While Mental has a more metalcore/hardcore feel than Simplicity or “Freeloader,” it doesn’t take away from their hard-hitting, explosive roots (being compared to bands like The Ghost Inside and Varials (PA). Progressing into the future, KOBA is planning their first tours and working on landing some big shows… stay tuned for more info!
