Exclusive Review: Kings of the Air - Gravity (Single)

Element Eighty, Saturate, Angel Siren, Myka, Relocate, our friends in Autumn Stay and A Life In Arm's Reach and, of course, their friends the legendary JiBE, and so many more! Now, though, it's time to feast your eyes upon the newest edition to the list. The band I speak of is a trio of professional, talented musicians out of Temple, TX called Kings of the Air. Their debut single "Gravity" is something that completely took me by surprise. With a new band, you might expect a bit of naivety or some slip-ups... you'll find neither in this track. Vocalist Rob Marcotte's style reminds me of a cross between Stephen Christian (Anberlin) and Michael Barnes (RED) but has an incredibly original, almost operatic, edge to it in parts.At the start of the song, we're met with a sliding guitar riff, leading into some keys and finally exploding into the masterpiece that it is. I don't take that term lightly and I don't say it without reason. For starters, this track has the potential to go toe-to-toe with any chart-topping single in active rock currently. It's infectiously catchy, spreading from your ears, moving to your heart and throughout your body in a matter of seconds. I've noticed that they like to compare their music to a storm, which couldn't be more fitting for them. I imagine seeing a video for this track in which they start out playing in a light rain, the song kicks in fully and a torrential downpour, lightning, wind and thunder atmospherically guide them through. If continued in the fashion that they've done this track, they truly will be the kings of the airwaves. Usually I find myself entranced by the vocals the most but the dynamic between these 3 musicians has truly captured my attention and has me begging for more!
