Album: Decade

Being in a band is a hard thing, especially these days. For a band to stay around for a few years is impressive. However, those that have been together for a decade or more are to be applauded even more. That means that for 10+ years, they have gone through the good, the bad and the ugly and have come out clean on the other side. Alesana is one of those bands. They are an ever-changing, ever expansive musical endeavor that leaves you emotionally drained with each and every listen. Their newest EP, simply titled “Decade” is taking a break from the storytelling and focusing on pure, good old-fashioned Rock ‘N F**king Roll! It’s no secret that this Raleigh sextet is talented, lest they would not be standing in front of us 10 years later doing what they do best. In all of the hype about the “Annabel” trilogy, though, you may have forgotten how they sound when they music for the fun of it, rather than to bring a concept together.

“Decade” is an EP that was spawned out of fans’ requests for new Alesana music while waiting for the 3rd and final installment in the “Annabel” trilogy. Tracks like “Deja Vu All Over Again” are reminiscent of the pop-influenced flavor we’ve seen in previous material, while “Nevermore” and “Ravenous” are fairly straight-forward, aggressive and in your face. “Nevermore”, lyrically, speaks of the state of the music scene and what, they fear, could happen if we don’t do something about it. One thing is for certain, this band still has it after 10 years and are going stronger than ever.

If you’ve ever been a fan of Alesana, this EP will easily appeal to you. From the insane back-and-forths between Shawn and Dennis to the face-melting guitar solos and the bass and drums giving the backbone to it all. After 10 years, this band has proven that they aren’t going anywhere any time soon, despite the many times they’ve wanted to hang it up. Decade will adhere itself to your heart and never let go. Be sure to pick it up on April 1st through Artery Recordings!
