Review – Linkin Park – From Zero

Artist: Linkin Park

Album: From Zero

Rating: 8/10

Linkin Park’s “From Zero” is a bold and ambitious step into a new era. The album, while paying homage to their iconic sound, introduces fresh elements and a powerful new voice.
Production-wise, “From Zero” really is a sonic masterpiece. The heavy guitars, thunderous drums, and infectious bass lines are hallmarks of Linkin Park’s signature sound incorporating modern electronic elements, creating a dynamic and layered soundscape.

Before they ascended to global stardom as Linkin Park, the band’s origins lay in the gritty underground scene of the middle 90’s. Initially known as Xero, the group’s early sound was a raw and aggressive blend of nu-metal and alternative rock, characterized by heavy riffs, distorted vocals, and a rebellious spirit. Despite their raw talent and intense live performances, Xero struggled to gain traction and secure a record deal. It wasn’t until the addition of vocalist Chester Bennington and a subsequent name change to Hybrid Theory that the band’s fortunes began to turn.

Cut the Bridge” is a powerful anthem that showcases the band’s ability to craft anthemic choruses and meaningful lyrics. The track delves into themes of resilience and self-discovery, resonating deeply with listeners.

Two Faced” is a raw and aggressive track that tackles the issue of hypocrisy and betrayal. The driving beat and intense vocals deliver a powerful message with raw emotion.

Emptiness Machine,” on the other hand, takes a more introspective approach, exploring themes of loneliness and isolation. The atmospheric production and haunting vocals create a sense of vulnerability and despair.

The addition of Emily Armstrong as the new vocalist is a bold and inspired choice. Her powerful and emotive vocals complement the band’s music perfectly, adding a new dimension to their sound. While the void left by Chester Bennington’s passing is undeniable, Armstrong’s unique voice and style bring a fresh perspective to the band’s music.

Heavy is the Crown” is another standout track, showcasing a darker and more aggressive side of Linkin Park. The heavy riffs, pounding drums, and intense vocals create a sense of urgency and despair. The lyrics explore themes of self-doubt and the weight of expectations, resonating with anyone who has struggled with their own inner demons.

From Zero” is a testament to Linkin Park’s enduring legacy and their ability to evolve and adapt. While it may not reach the heights of their earlier work, it is a solid and satisfying release that will undoubtedly please fans and introduce the band to a new generation of listeners.
