Review: New Medicine – One Too Many (Single)
Artist: New Medicine
Album: One Too Many – Single
Rating: 5/5
If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past couple of years, you’ve likely heard of New Medicine. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Avenged Sevenfold, Chevelle, Adelitas Way, Halestorm and many more! Their special blend of party-rock is not something you’ll soon forget. With their debut album, Race You to the Bottom, they released 3 infectious singles: “Laid”, “Rich Kids” and, one of my personal favorites, “Race You to the Bottom”. Since their signing to Imagen Records in mid-2013, they’ve been fairly quiet but over the past week, they’ve broken their silence. Yesterday (July 17th, 2014), they announced that their sophomore album Breaking the Model, would be out on August 25th.
In TRUE New Meds fashion, they’ve picked up right where “Race You to the Bottom” left off. If “Race You to the Bottom” was a feel-good drinking song, their new single “One Too Many” is RYttB 2.0. Starting off with a funky electronic groove, vocalist Jake Scherer proclaims “Friday night, passed out in the street, can’t believe what I see, what I hear. Think I’ve had too many beers!” and the fun ensues. If you’ve seen New Meds live, you’ll know that these guys love to drink. If you’ve ever had an alcoholic drink, you will easily relate to this song in one way or another. “One too many drinks, one too many fights. One too many nights in a rut, gettin’ drunk, ending up with a scar, kicked out of the bar. Feelin’ like shit cuz I hit rock bottom, guess I’ve had one too many!”. This is the ultimate testament to the good, the bad and the ugly things that can happen when you’ve had “One Too Many. With the addition of Dylan Wood (ex-Emphatic) and the hard rock influence his drumming brings to the table, this band is ready to take over the world! So grab a beer, crank it up and get ready for Breaking the Model which is sure to be the soundtrack to the rest of your Summer!
