Review: Scott Stapp – Proof of Life
Artist: Scott Stapp
Album: Proof of Life
Rating: 10/10
Let’s do a quick flashback: It’s 2004, Christian Rock phenoms, Creed have broken up at the top of their game and gone their separate ways. Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips form Alter Bridge with new vocalist Myles Kennedy. Scott Stapp, the voice of Creed, however decided to go a different route. He had his eyes on a solo record and thus his debut album, “The Great Divide” was born. It spawned one of the most anthemic rock songs I think I have ever heard in the title track. Since that time, the album has gone double platinum and he is doing very well for himself. In 2009, Creed reunited and released an incredibly successful album in “Full Circle”. The band toured and seemed to have been back on top of their game! In 2011-2012, the band started work on the follow-up, but it was abruptly stopped due to reasons unknown. Not knowing what the future held for the quartet, Stapp began work on his follow-up solo album, “Proof of Life”. Released last week, the album is one of the most impressive achievements he has made to date. The radio anthem and opening track, “Slow Suicide” has seen massive success, but that’s the only beginning.
Being strong in his Christian faith, you can bet that in anything this man writes, his faith will reflect one way or another. This is extremely evident in his solo work. Tracks like “Jesus Was A Rockstar” & “Proof of Life” are testaments to that fact. However, the album, as with his debut solo album, contains incredibly uplifting tracks that will have you singing at the top of your lungs. When I received this album, I was feeling kind of down and stressed about some things. Once I listened to it, however, I was feeling great about things at the end! I can’t tell you how many times this album has played in my library! Some highlights of the album are the previously mentioned tracks along with “New Day Coming”, “What Would Love Do” and “Dying to Live”.
If you’ve ever been a fan of Stapp’s voice or the message conveyed through his music, you will definitely want to pick up “Proof of Life”. It is by far his best, most impressive work to date and will really shoot this man back to the top of the charts with his Alter Bridge brothers! Go pick up your copy of “Proof of Life” now! You won’t regret it!
