Review: Thulium – Sixty Nine
Artist: Thulium
Album: Sixty Nine
Rating: 10/10
Thulium: The chemical element with the atomic number 69. While the comical nature of this is pretty apparent, don’t let that fool you! Thulium is sure to be one of the biggest bands out of the UK before the year is up! Their debut album, “Sixty Nine”, was fan-funded through the popular platform Kickstarter and, while it’s not a heavy-hitting, balls to the wall type record, it definitely has the merit to claim it’s spot as an early front-runner for album of the year! Upon my first listen of this band, I was instantly intrigued because you don’t see a lot of rock bands out there these days who can keep things mellow through an entire album and still manage to keep your interest! That’s not to say that there aren’t some more up-tempo and “heavier” songs on the album, because there definitely are.
“For Real” is one of those tracks. It’s a really down-home solid rock track that will have you up and moving in no time. By the time you get to the solo, your air guitar will be fully charged and you’ll be playing along like never before! The musicianship these guys show is pretty incredible, not to mention the lyrical prowess shown in this album. If you’re looking for something that is just between being too heavy and too soft, you’ll want to check out “Sixty Nine”. Tracks like the aforementioned “For Real”, “Perfect Lifemare” and the opening track “Tomorrow Comes Today” will have you out of your seat. However, tracks like “From Cool to Cold”, “Your Majesty” and “Shapes of Things to Come” will touch the heart and have you belting out and possibly shedding tears.
I recommend this album for any fan of alternative rock, as it truly hits the nail on the head with each and every note! Pick up “Sixty Nine” this February and see for yourself why Thulium is more than meets the eye!
