Review/Photo Gallery: Senses Fail Warns “If There Is Light, It Will Find You” @ House of Blues Orlando

Senses Fail, an American post-hardcore band that has been around since 2002, based out of Ridgewood, New Jersey. They have been through many ups and downs, and have seen several changes within the band soundwise as well as member changes. They have evolved so much since the start of their career. Two major changes have come about recently. Buddy Niesen and his wife welcomed a beautiful daughter into this world, as well as Senses Fail releasing their seventh studio album, “If There Is Light, It Will Find You”.

I was fortunate enough to attend their show in Lake Buena Vista, Florida at the House of Blues on March 7th. This tour includes Senses Fail with special guests Have Mercy, Household and Reggie and the Full Effect. Tour began in Santa Ana, CA on 2/27 and will end in Las Vegas on 3/31. Including future stops PA, MA, MI, NJ, OH, IL, KS, CO, UT, WA, OR, CA. Making a stop in their home state of New Jersey at the Starland Ballroom in Sayerville, New Jersey on March 17th.

Setlists for these shows included songs off their new album If There Is Light, It Will Find You, as well as songs from their past studio albums, Let It Enfold You (2004), Still Searching (2006), and Life is Not a Waiting Room (2008). Setlist from the show I attended: “Family Tradition”, “New Jersey Makes, the World Takes”, “Handguns and Second Chances”, “You’re Cute When You Scream”, “Elevators to the Gallows”, “Lady in a Blue Dress”, “Between the Mountains and the Sea”, “Double Cross”, “Calling All Cars”, “New Year’s Eve”, “First Breath, Last Breath”, “Bonecrusher”, “The Priest and the Matador”, “Gold Jacket, Green Jacket”, “Buried a Lie”, “Lungs Like Gallows”, “Can’t Be Saved”. Encore songs included: “Rum is For Drinking, Not For Burning”, and “Bite to Break Skin”.

Buddy showing his true emotional side during the show by opening up about the LGBT community and being a part of that community. Drug and alcohol use and addictions he overcame, and mental/emotional struggles of growing up. Not much later in the show did Buddy open up, yet again to the audience about a tragic experience that inspired First Breath, Last Breath off the new album. Nielsen opened up about the struggles he and his wife, who struggles with multiple sclerosis, went through in child birth. Opening up about a miscarriage they had experienced together and the loss of a child. He then revealed that during the birth of his daughter, his wife experienced very traumatic complications. Buddy told the crowd, “as my daughter took her first breath, my wife took her last.” Recounting the terrifying events Nielsen goes on to tell the crowd “I remember as the doctors were trying to push me out the room, I remember standing in the doorway thinking about blowing my brains out.” He goes on to tell his audience about how he cannot picture living without his wife and doing this (raising their daughter) alone.

You will experience so many emotions in the crowd of a Senses Fail show, but all honest and true feelings spoken from the heart of Buddy and the rest of the bands on this run. This show as well as all the rest of the dates on this tour are full of so much energy, feel good throwback Senses Fail vibes, and good times. Don’t miss out on an absolutely amazing tour.
