Step Into “Sanctuary” with Unique Alt-Rock Kingdom Hearts Cover
September 17th, 2002 saw the release of the first title in one of the most iconic series in the history of video games. I’m talking, of course, about Kingdom Hearts. With the so-close, yet so-far-away looming release of the third installment in the series, tensions are high but excitement levels are through the roof. The Kingdom Hearts series has also brought us some of the most beautiful and brilliant music of any game. Dillon Forst, vocalist, songwriter and mastermind behind the band Inertia, has decided to tackle a fan favorite. Kingdom Hearts II‘s opening theme, “Sanctuary” by Utada Hikaru has become widely recognized and has been covered in a variety of different ways… but not like this. Today, we’re proud to premiere his cover of the song with a full music video, showing that he’s more than just a vocalist. This is the first time you’ve seen him play every instrument and makes for an interesting view. So, if you’re a fan of the Kingdom Hearts series or are just looking for an awesome new cover, check out the video below as a joint exclusive between New Transcendence and Second Heartbeat Promotions.
Dillon had this to say about the cover: We’re excited about Kingdom Hearts 3 and when we saw the trailer for it I felt inspired to write a rock-inspired cover of Sanctuary from Kingdom Hearts II (the opening theme). I wanted a chance to show off my ability to play every instrument and kick off our YouTube channel as a Creators page filled with exciting and unique content . We’re happy to say there isn’t another Alt Rock cover of this song out there like this and a huge shout out to Utada Hikaru and Disney for not only producing the original song that inspired this cover but also for inspiring me, Dillon Forst, to create a fresh sound for the franchise . We hope the fans and strangers alike will love listening to this song while playing the game and we hope our version inspires you all the same . We have a music video for our song ” The Heartless & The Nobody ” that we just finished filming for, which is a fan fiction written completely by me, inspired by the Kingdom Hearts characters known as “Heartless” & “Nobodies” . We can’t wait to release the video. The song is out now, oh and spoiler , Jonny Craig is singing on a duet version of this song as well, to be released at a later date.
