Versus Me Puts Their Spin on A 1985 Classic

Versus Me is a band that, from the start, has always done their own thing. While formed in the wake/midst of other bands, their sound has remained a unique, refreshing take on today’s post-hardcore/metalcore movement. Today, though, after much thought and consideration, they’ve finally decided to do a cover song. While vocalist & bassist (respectively) James and Lee Milbrandt have done covers of their own, with their father, this is something completely different for the band, as a whole, and goes to show just how much they respect the artist they covered.
The song they settled on, you may ask? Tears For Fears’ 1985 classic, “Shout!” Only one other band, to my knowledge, has covered this song and done it justice and that was Disturbed, on their debut album, The Sickness. Be prepared to throw away any pre-conceived notions you’ve formed about Versus Me and be blown away, by their respect and attention to detail on this phenomenal take. First off, the 80’s flair remains present and plays a central role in the cover. While this version has been sped up a little bit, I believe it plays to the band’s strengths, as it allows Milbrandt to really get into the track, evidenced by the video which was exclusively premiered via Loudwire. While the guys are hard at work on new music, be sure to follow them on social media, catch up on their back catalog (which was just added to New Transcendence Radio, btw) and get ready for a new side of the band… the likes of which you’ve never seen before. For now, be sure to head over to Loudwire and show them some love!
