Yellowcard Wow the Crowd with TWO Sold Out Florida Hometown Shows in Jacksonville
Yellowcard is a pop punk band straight out of Jacksonville, Florida. They formed in 1997 where the original members all attended school together. Yellowcard is best known for “Ocean Avenue” and “Lights and Sounds“. They songs very quickly became a staple in the 90’s for pop punk music lovers. To this day you cannot hear these songs and not be transported right back to where you were when you first heard these songs. Whether from your favorite television shows, parties you attended, school dances, or simply enjoying your time shredding some concrete at your local skate park. Yellowcard released ten studio albums to date, with its most recent, self-titled album, Yellowcard, released on September 30, 2016. Unfortunately, the band did break up for some time after they released the album, Yellowcard, but would soon get back together and came back with a vengeance to be even bigger and more impressive than ever. This reuniting of the band happened in 2022 where they performed at Riot Fest taking the festival by storm and showing their fans just how passionate they are for their craft. Yellowcard would then announce an upcoming tour for the Anniversary for ‘Ocean Avenue’ starting in 2023 including their hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. The boys were ready to rock Duval harder than Duval has seen before. This proved to be very true as Yellowcard sold out their first Jacksonville date and added a second hometown date due to demand. The band put out a new EP in July of 2023 called, “Childhood Eyes”, which would be well received by Yellowcard fans everywhere and performed by the band on their current tour.
Things would only get more exciting and nostalgic for Yellowcard fans. It just so happens that the band would play their second Jacksonville date on the actual birthday of Ocean Avenue. This is a big milestone for the album as it was the 20th Year anniversary of one of the biggest albums that were released in the 90’s. This only heightened the desire for the bands fans to attend this show as they knew this show would be filled with so much electricity and for sure include the songs from that album. I was lucky enough to attend their second performance on July 22, 2023 which was sold out, no surprise to me. Full gallery from night 2 at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, below.
Pulling up to the venue, Daily’s Place you could see all of the fans starting to crowd the gates to enter and find their seats. I headed inside to see Yellowcard fans everywhere mingling with other fans, grabbing themselves a cold beverage, taking selfies in front of the Yellowcard Duval poster, and rushing to get to the Pit. You could see Yellowcard shirts supporting the band everywhere you looked, from old school to newer released merch. This took me back to when was in high school and saw my friends wearing Yellowcard shirts for Ocean Avenue as we went to our concerts. The energy in the venue was so intense, pulsating through your body through your feet. I could feel the excitement and anticipation as their fans awaited the bands performance. The boys hit the stage and the crowd went wild. The level of noise inside the venue intensified tenfold. You could tell you were in for an incredible night of music and showmanship. From the barricade I could see fans holding handwritten and street signs for Ocean Avenue’s Birthday. Duval fans were eating up this performance showing the boys intense levels of support for their hometown band they all grew up with and love. The band even brought out the lead singer for Mayday PArade, Derek Sanders for their song, “Hang You Up”. It was so great to see these two powerhouse singers and performers on stage together on this tour. Yellowcard proved to every single concertgoer that they are such an amazing band and were back better than ever before. This will not be the last we hear from the boys of Yellowcard. This was such an impressive show, and I was very thankful to have witnessed such supportive, energized, invigorated, and loyal fans. Their setlist for the show included: “Way Away”, “Breathing”, “Lights and Sounds”, “Believe”, “Life of a Salesman”, “Rough Landing, Holly”, “Fighting”, “Holly Wood Died”, “One Year, Six Months”, “Hang You Up” (featuring Derek Sanders of Mayday Parade), “Empty Apartment”, “Childhood Eyes”, “Light Up the Sky”, “Always Summer”, “Awakening”, and “Back Home”.
